A Message From Bob Eredics
In the early 1990’s, I spent time working as a pharmacist on a few medical
outreach teams in Mexico. While I know the skills I brought to the team
ultimately helped to change things, it was what I saw with my eyes and my heart
that changed me forever. You see, I had never been to a country outside of the
United States before, and as a result, I was overwhelmed with the lack of basic
medical care and nutrition. I was changed from that point on, and my heart’s
desire was to help. Little did I know at the time that the conditions I observed
in Mexico were far better than in many other countries. Sixteen years later, I
have had my eyes opened yet again, and this time, I’m seeing the need for
nutrition and care for people from all around the world.
I haven't been to Africa, and I haven’t been to Asia, but I can see the
desperate needs when I study the reports of those who have been working to ease
the unnecessary suffering, debilitation, and death that occurs daily from
preventable diseases and malnutrition. Knowing what I know now, I can’t look the
other way and hope someone else can help. So with my eyes wide open, I formed a
group of devoted colleagues to help me provide vitamins for the people in the
cane fields of the Dominican Republic. Our initial efforts lasted 18 months and
have created a new level of awareness to the universal need for vitamins and the
lack of a dependable source to make our efforts sustainable. In the past
eighteen months , we have provided over 5.5 million tablets, and through this
major push, we can now clearly see the impact as well as the need.
The
truth is each of us starts to die the day we are born. But how we live our
lives, and what we put into our bodies for nutrition, can ultimately grant us
longevity and stamina to do more good in this world. The need for improved
nutrition goes way beyond the success of an individual and impacts entire
generations.
Bill
Gates, in his reply to the question of giving, once said, “If you believe that
every life has equal value, its revolting to learn that some lives are worth
saving, others not.” It is our mission to prove our belief that all people have
the right to have food and adequate nutrition that allows them to do more than
just exist. It is our belief that all people have the right to have their lives
valued as much as we value our own.
So I
will end with a question of my own:
Is our undertaking to provide “Vitamins For The World” an effort that is
reachable and worthwhile?
If your answer is
yes,
I hope you will take time to read more about what we are planning and what you
can do to help.
